Jim Arlington

My decision to run for Board of Directors for West Area has come after much thoughtful deliberation. I don’t want to be just another cog in the wheel. I want to make a difference.

I have been chapter chair at Webster Middle School for a number of years as well as an activist:

  • West Area Steering Committee
  • UTLA House of Representatives
  • Pace Committee
  • West Area Grievance Coordinator

I bring a varied educational background to my candidacy. I was an elementary, special education, and a middle school teacher; Gatekeeper and Special Education Coordinator, and currently am the Bridge Coordinator at Webster Middle School. These have given me a clear understanding of what teachers face now and in the coming years. The challenges are many.

We must address class size reduction, scripted teaching programs, and periodic assessments which are stifling to all teachers. Additionally. I know how devastating the current move to mainstream all special education students has been: too fast, too few resources and inadequate training, particularly for our general education teachers.

I will work to address these issues. You need an advocate; I believe I am that advocate who will provide a strong voice for teachers.

I am running on the United Action slate. I believe in the progressive policies of United Action that include building strong ties with parents, community groups and other unions.

Vote forJim Arlington and the rest of the United Action Team!

We Stand For:

  • Further Class Size Reduction
  • Increased local Decision Making
  • Substantial Pay Raises
  • Elimination of Top-Down Mandates
