“We shouldn’t have to fight but every day
WE FIGHT...

...to keep our schools safe.
...for pay and health benefits and a clear and accurate pay check.
...for respect and to be heard.

Fighting is better together: supported, organized
and UNITED.
I fight long.
I fight hard.
I fight to succeed.

I want to continue to fight for you and with you – now, as your UTLA secretary, along with the United Action team.”

EXPERIENCE, COMPETENCY
AND A FIGHTING SPIRIT

What I know from my 33 years in the classroom (Pre-K, K, 1, 2, 5, 6 - 9) is what you go through every day to stand up for your rights and for your students.

What I have done I’ve served as a UTLA grievance coordinator, on the Organizing Taskforce, Secondary Periodic Assessment Taskforce and currently, on the Living Contract Committee. I’ve served as Chapter Chair at South Gate MS, as an area steering committee cluster leader, as South Area Secretary, on your House of Representatives and Board of Directors, and currently, as Area Chair for the ‘proud and loud’ South Area. I am also a delegate to the LA County Federation of Labor, to the CFT and AFT conventions and to the NEA RA.

As the South Area Chair, I and our area team prioritized: 1)“Take back the School Councils” trainings for all sites; 2) area meetings that train members and collect, as well as disseminate, information to empower sites; and 3) organizing and mobilizing support for schools to decide and control site-specific issues. South Area also mobilized a demonstration at DeLoitte and Touche to protest their part of the B.T.S. payroll debacle.

I will be a more than a competent secretary-

  • I will fulfill all the duties of Secretary as defined in the UTLA Constitution of UTLA and more. UTLA processes need to be clearly defined and transparent. Record keeping and communication is vital to supporting you and organizing for actions. I will return your phone calls and emails promptly. You are important.

What I fight for –

  • To be at the top of the county in pay, receive an accurate paycheck and maintain our health benefits.
  • Public education that respects the expertise of teachers.
  • All UTLA bargaining unit constituencies supported along with classroom teachers against unreasonable District, State and Federal mandates.
  • Building and organizing real partnerships with parents and community leaders working with teachers as a powerful force for the safe and successful schools we deserve.

I fight for collaborative leadership because I have seen it work – and I have seen it work for you in the last 3 years

“Betty Forrester is a woman of great integrity with an absolute commitment to UTLA. Her combination of service and organizing skills will move the Union forward and will only enhance the position of teachers and students in LAUSD.” -Cheryl Ortega, UTLA Director of Bilingual Education

“Betty Forrester is recognized as being tirelessly committed to improving the quality of education for our students. -Mary Jan ‘MJ’ Roberts, UTLA South Area Board of Directors NEA/CTA, AFT/CFT Delegate

“Betty Forrester brings competency, energy and union spirit so vital to UTLA. -Mat Taylor, UTLA South Area Board of Directors, NEA
