Ingrid Gunnell

During the past 3 years as a member of the Board of Directors I have experienced many exciting personal and professional milestones. In my personal life I became a mother to Frankie just after the last election in 2005 and to my second son, Gianni, in June of 2006.

In May of 2007 I earned my Master's Degree in Human Development from Pacific Oaks College. I reached the 10 year-mark working with students in the LAUSD, and this year had the opportunity to teach SRLDP. I continued my activity with UTLA, which I began in 2000 as a Co-Chapter Chair. I am now a Chapter Chair and have also participated in the House of Representatives, East Area Steering Committee, NEA RA, and CTA State Council.

I have thoroughly enjoyed being an elected representative of the East Area membership and look forward to serving another term. Chuck Vaughn, Fernando Ledezma, Tommy Muñoz, and I have worked well together to organize our members at local school sites. Our hard work has built strong chapters that have been successful in faculty meeting boycotts, Red Shirt Tuesdays, and participation at rallies and demonstrations. We have visited school sites to mediate problems, listened to our members, and brought back to UTLA any East Area concerns. Given the many forces that have set their sights on reforming public schools, we want to continue to work with members to assure the process of school reform is done in a democratic and socially just manner that ensures a quality education for our students and better working conditions for our members.
