I am running for Board of Directors because I have tremendous respect for teachers. As a current classroom teacher I see how the District’s lack of common sense hurts teachers and kids. As Chapter Chair at Verdugo Hills HS and a member of House of Reps I have worked with teachers and the union.

UTLA must fight to return classroom control to teachers. Verdugo successfully fought mandated English curriculum. UTLA must stop LAUSD from stripping us of our creativity.

UTLA must not compromise with the district when they create ineffective policies. Because of past compromises, we have mandated lessons, micromanaged teachers, often meaningless professional development, and HS teachers who lost their seniority because of SLCs. UTLA must say “no” to bad ideas, as we did for mid-year renorming.

UTLA must work to expose District Waste. As the child of parents who grew up during the Depression, I know they would be horrified to see the money wasted by LAUSD. An investigative committee, trained in public record search, needs to be formed. Another debacle like the payroll disaster CANNOT be allowed to happen again.

Many Valley East teachers feel their concerns are not being addressed. Communication will be a priority. I won’t let UTLA be a top down institution like the District. I look forward to working with you.
