Fernando Ledezma

Now more than ever we are facing huge challenges that threaten to undermine the core principles of public education

For decades educators have been at the forefront in meeting the enormous challenges of educating the young people within our society. We expect to deal with students that are far below grade level, or with students who have difficulties in learning. And as educators we have met those challenges.

Yet as educators we find ourselves dealing with an educational system that is convoluted with a bureaucracy and weighed down by scripted curricula that limits critical thinking. In the past three decades we have had dozens, if not hundreds of curricular programs that aren’t properly vetted by the district “specialists”. Teachers are mandated to follow much of this scripted curriculum, which, in effect, limits and reduces their experience and insight.

Now more than ever we must stand up for quality public education. Our principle objective should be producing critical thinkers within each and every student. As East Area Board of Directors we have been united in our struggle against these challenges. I ask that you re-elect Ingrid Gunnell, Tommy Muñoz and I to the NEA Board of Directors seats for the East Area.

Vote for Fernando Ledezma and the rest of the United Action Team!

We Stand For:

  • Further Class Size Reduction
  • Increased local Decision Making
  • Substantial Pay Raises
  • Elimination of Top-Down Mandates
