I am running for Valley East NEA Director on the United Action slate because it is time to take back our profession. It is time we get the respect that we deserve as educational professionals. The district must remember our years of education and teaching experience.

My priorities will be:

Respect in the Classroom - We know how to teach. Mandatory lesson plans and programs, pacing plans, and periodic assessments are an insult. They must be eliminated or become voluntary guidelines. The district can’t tell us how to teach.

Competitive Salaries and Benefits - We need salaries and benefits that treat us like professionals. The District's failure to make the classroom the number one priority hurts students and teachers. Our dedication should not be disrespected by inappropriate salary negotiations and proposals for a divisive merit pay system.

Lower Class Size and more Local Control - We need to continue reducing class size so our students get the attention they need while insisting that teachers and parents have more control to tailor the educational program at their schools to meet their needs.

I have experience to serve Valley East:

  • 23 yr LAUSD teacher, elementary & middle school
  • Chapter Chair at Pacoima MS
  • UTLA House of Reps
  • Chair, UTLA National Board Certified Teachers Committee

Vote for Scott Mandel and the rest of the United Action Team!

We Stand For:

  • Further Class Size Reduction
  • Increased local Decision Making
  • Substantial Pay Raises
  • Elimination of Top-Down Mandates
