Tommy Muñoz

During my last two years as a member of the Board of Directors, I have been part of a change in how our union is perceived. Thanks largely to the members of United Action and their vision for a stronger, more united union, our union is now recognized as a legitimate force that has the backing of our members.

 


United Action members believe in a union that fights for smaller class size, increased benefits for its members, and more member control at the school sites. It is because of United Action’s commitment to improving our teachers’ working conditions that I am part of the United Action team.

Although our union has made significant gains over the last few years, there is still much work to be done. Our union needs to continue to strengthen our membership at each of our school sites. We also need to continue to unite members around the current contract negotiations. Lastly, UTLA needs to vigorously stand up for the rights of our members and defend public education from constant attack.

I plan to use my experience as a teacher, chapter chair, House of Representative member, NEA local representative, and member of the Board of Directors to ensure our union continues to fight for its members
