An Experienced Leader and Advocate
Now is the time you can have the biggest influence over the quality of your work life.
The Officers and Board of Directors decide how and where the Union will spend your dues money and they negotiate with LAUSD on your behalf. They recently won the best due process rights for Substitutes in the Country. It is very important that you get every Substitute you know to vote so they can continue to do more for us.
I have worked hard for years to fight for justice and respect for Substitute Teachers. Every time I have been involved in negotiations we have made gains. Thank you for your vote of support. You will see by my accomplishments that I am the Substitute candidate with the most knowledge of our rights, and how the District and UTLA work.
And it is not only what you know it is also who you know. I am endorsed by Substitute Committee Chair Dave Peters and the current UTLA Leadership. I have unprecedented access to UTLA’s decision makers. The previous Board of Directors voted against anything I asked for to help Substitutes. The current Officers and Directors have been very supportive. Some of the people running against the current supportive Board of Directors tried to eliminate the Substitute Newsletter. The people I am supporting helped me stop them and save the Substitute Newsletter.
It is very important that you vote for the people on this ticket.
When I started coming to the Substitute Committee years ago there was hardly anyone there. The Substitute Leaders running the meetings weren’t even Substitute Teachers anymore. They couldn’t get any Substitutes to step forward. So I did. The first thing I did was to get the budget for the Substitute Newsletter. It revived the Substitute Committee that now has the largest attendance of any UTLA Committee. The Substitute publications have been the only resource to educate us on our rights, and provide other advice and training for us.
I am the first to go above and beyond meeting with the Sub Unit Director to deal with Substitute issues. I then spend the rest of the day meeting with the Chief of Staff of Superintendent Brewer and the Board of Education, the Director of HR, the Chief Instructional Officer, the Superintendent of School Operations and of the PSP Substitute Program, and other important District people available on that day.
I also have access to the Mayors Office, California Senate Majority Leader Gloria Romero, several Assemblymembers, the Governor's Office, and I am currently working with the State Superintendent's Office and the California Commission on Credentialing to get more help for Substitutes.
